DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis Athletics' Fellowship Program continues to provide early-career professionals with hands-on experience and exposure to the fast-paced environment of Division I athletics. Recent fellows Letty Macias and Chris Plasterer have both continued careers in sports following their time at UC Davis.
Macias served as an Athletic Communications Fellow from July 2024 through March 2026, supporting multiple sports as a media contact while assisting with social media strategy and content production. She now serves as Social Media Manager for the Inland Empire 66ers, the High-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.
"I always knew my long-term goal was to work in sports," Macias said in her
full fellowship reflection. "When the opportunity to specialize in communications with an emphasis on social media through this fellowship became available, I was incredibly excited. It felt like the perfect intersection of my skills, passions, and professional aspirations."
Plasterer served as the department's Marketing Fellow from July 2024 through December 2025, assisting with marketing plans, fan engagement initiatives, and outreach efforts across multiple sports and campus events.Â
He recently accepted a position as Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement at UC Santa Barbara Athletics.
"My primary responsibilities at Davis were to build lasting, meaningful relationships between community groups and Athletics, run game presentations, and create marketing plans for teams, including giveaways and theme games," Plasterer said. "Most importantly, I learned how to be an effective leader—guiding a team to achieve a shared goal while building confidence and fostering a positive culture," Plasterer shared in his
full fellowship reflection.
Both fellows authored
full reflections on their experiences within UC Davis Athletics, highlighting their professional growth and the relationships built during their time with the department.
Originally launched in 2017 through a collaboration between UC Davis Athletics and ASUCD, the program supports students and recent graduates interested in communications, marketing, creative content, and external relations.
