The short story:
UC Davis softball dropped a pair of games to CSUN in a Big West doubleheader played on Monday, due to the poor weather over the weekend forcing the schedule change.

LEADING OFF
  • Keira Brady had a solid day at the dish, going 3-for-6 with one run scored, one RBI and one walk over the two games
  • Alyssa Dethlefson added her own three hit day, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored, two doubles, one RBI and one walk in two starts
  • Gia Felice added a pair of hits over the two games, while Rylee Reeves scored two runs and drew two walks
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
  • The Aggies got the scoring started, scoring three runs in the second to quickly take a 3-0 lead thanks to a bases loaded walk by Brady and a heads up play by Reeves and a throwing error
  • In the opening scoring play, after Brady had drawn her walk and Marley Panziera had crossed the plate, the CSUN pitched turned her back to the play and with her head staying up Revees saw that and broke for home, scoring another run in a wild play that put the Aggies in front early
  • In the third, CSUN got on the board with a pair of runs to get within 3-2
  • But in the third Annika Norquist delivered a big blow, hitting a double down the right field line that scored both Dethlefson and Brady to put the Aggies back in front 5-2 after the opening three frames
  • CSUN got within one run in the fourth with a pair of runs and after the Aggies hit into a triple play in the bottom of the fourth CSUN used that momentum to take the lead in the fifth with a two RBI single
  • The Matadors would then score two more in the sixth and despite Claire Shelton hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh, the Aggies could not mount a late comeback and dropped the opening game of the doubleheader 8-6
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
  • In the opening frame of the second game CSUN got on the board first with an RBI double
  • But the Aggies had a response, with Dethlefson smacking a ground-rule double that snuck between the fence gap in right center field that scored Felice and tied things up at 1-1
  • CSUN scored a pair in the third to go up 3-1 and they would take that lead into the sixth where they added three runs to pull away from the Aggies late
  • A seventh inning home run would be the final run scored by CSUN and it finished off the 7-1 game two win for the Matadors
