THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis dropped Friday night's series opener to UC San Diego 9-4, falling behind late despite an immediate response in the early innings. Despite the Aggies taking an early lead behind a three-run home run, they could not hold off the Tritons' consistent offensive pressure and a late four-run eighth inning.
LEADING OFF
- Joey Wright's three-run homer in the second inning set an early tone for the Aggies, giving them an initial lead.
- Tyler Howard came through late by sparking the offense with a solo home run in the seventh inning to keep the Aggies within striking distance.
- Braydon Wooldridge and Korey Williams contributed the other two hits on the night for the Aggies, finishing 1-for-4 respectively.
- Keenan Anzai started on the mound for UC Davis, throwing 4.0 innings and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC San Diego jumped ahead in the top of the second with one run, but UC Davis answered in the bottom half as Wright's three-run homer gave the Aggies a 3-1 lead.
- The Tritons edged closer with a run in the third inning to make it a one-run game. UC San Diego reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning, pushing across two runs for a 4-3 advantage.
- The Tritons added another insurance run in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 5-3.
- UC Davis trimmed the deficit in the seventh when Howard launched a solo shot to left field, making it 5-4.
- UC San Diego put the game out of reach in the eighth however, using a four-run inning highlighted by a two-run homer to secure the 9-4 victory.
