The short story: UC Davis softball battled through its midweek showdown at Sacramento State but would fall in the end against its rivals.
 
LEADING OFF

• Gia Felice, Alyssa Dethlefson, Marley Panziera, Rylee Reeves, Vanessa Calvillo and Olivia McFarland all collected hits for the Aggies
• Calvillo added a double, while Felice collected a stolen base
• Caroline Grimes came in for two innings of relief, giving the Aggies a strong performance with four strikeouts while giving up no runs and allowing no walks 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Aggies got started early and scored consistently over the opening three frames, getting RBIs from Dethlefson, Amanda Baldwin, Felice and Calvillo
• But over those opening frames and beyond, the Hornets had answers scoring four runs in the first, three in the second and at least one over the next four innings to build out its eventual 11-4 midweek victory.
