DAVIS, Calif. — No. 16 UC Davis women's water polo hosted its first home game of the season, meeting No. 1 Stanford for the second time this year, ultimately falling 20-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Madison Sparre opened the scoring just over a minute into the first period, capitalizing on a powerplay, to give UC Davis an early 1-0 lead before Stanford responded with five straight to end the quarter.
- Redshirt senior Gianna Nocetti converted a penalty shot in the second, but the Cardinal struck back with five more to go into the half with a 10-2 lead.
- Nocetti provided a consistent spark for the transition game throughout the match, winning three of the four opening sprints.
- After a Stanford goal to open the third, junior Chelsea Johnson found the back of the net on a 6-on-5 opportunity midway through the frame to put the Aggies at three goals on the day.
- The Cardinal scored the final nine of the game, securing a 20-3 victory over the Aggies.
