The short story: Alyssa Dethlefson smashed a pair of home runs while
Ashley Sawai tossed a complete game shutout to help UC Davis softball wrap up its weekend at the Lyman Classic with a win over hosting Utah Tech.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Sawai was nearly unhittable in her seven frames of work, striking out four while giving up zero walks in the five-hit shutout
- Dethlefson once again powered UC Davis at the top, collecting four RBIs, scoring three runs and stealing one base to go along with her first career multi-home run game
- Gia Felice was right behind Dethlefson, going 3-for-5 with one run scored and one stolen base
- Naomi Kalanetra had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Rylee Reeves scored a pair of runs while going 2-for-3Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sawai set the tone in the circle all game long, sitting the Trailblazers down in order in two frames and only allowing multiple base runners in the fifth and second innings
- Around the Aggie pitcher's lights out performance Dethlefson bookended the Aggie day with a leadoff home run and seventh inning three-run shot to cap things off
- In-between the two Dethlefson home runs, the Aggies scored three in the third, putting the ball in play and forcing several fielding mistakes by Utah Tech to make it 4-0 after three frames
- Kiera Brady recorded and RBI in the sixth, and Kayla Macias knocked in Sydney Polli with a sacrifice before Dethlefson's three-run base rounder ended the Aggie scoring putting it at 9-0
