MORAGA, Calif. — The UC Davis trio of Ivan Savkin, Aiden Mueller and Perry DiGiulio finished unbeaten in singles play at the two-day NorCal Invitational Shootout hosted by Saint Mary's that concluded Sunday at the Timothy Corth Tennis Complex.
DiGiulio was a three-set winner over Sam Simmonds of Saint Mary's on Sunday (6-0, 3-6, 7-5), while Mueller defeated Joey Lyon in two sets (6-3, 6-4). Savkin did not play singles Sunday.
Other Aggie winners Sunday included Savkin and Mueller teaming up for a 6-3 doubles victory over Sacramento State's Jacopo Antonelli and Nick Bowles, as well Cyrus Ahmad and Nadaul Cheam winning a pair of doubles matches both 6-2 against Devin Stuppin/Joey Lion (Saint Mary's) and Nico Rating/Samuel Bautista (Pacific). In addition, Ahmad had a 6-3, 6-4 singles win over Frano Sucic (Saint Mary's), while Kaveh Taheri was victorious 6-4, 6-3 against Pacific's Jonty Giesen.
"I was really pleased with the level of effort and intensity today after a long day of tennis yesterday," UC Davis head coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "It shows a great commitment from our players that will help us going forward."
All three of the Aggies' unbeaten singles players had started NorCal Invitational with a pair of singles victories on Saturday.
Savkin started his Saturday with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Freddie Healey (Sacramento State) before outlasting Giesen in a three-set thriller (4-6, 6-2, 10-8).
Mueller defeated Sacramento State's Sebastian Vlahos (6-2, 6-4) then won the first set against Pacific's Audi Dagan (6-1). Dagan won the first game of the second set before retiring.
DiGiulio took down Antonelli in his first match and Rating in his second, both by the score of 6-2, 6-2.
UC Davis will next be in action Oct. 15-20 at the ITA Northwest Regionals hosted by Washington in Seattle.
