MORAGA, Calif. — The UC Davis trio of Ivan Savkin, Aiden Mueller and Perry DiGiulio each won a pair of singles matches Saturday on the first day of the NorCal Invitational Shootout hosted by Saint Mary's at the Timothy Corth Tennis Complex.
Savkin started his day with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Freddie Healey (Sacramento State) before knocking off Pacific's Jonty Giesen (4-6, 6-2, 10-8).
Mueller defeated Sacramento State's Sebastian Vlahos (6-2, 6-4) then won the first set against Pacific's Audi Dagan (6-1). Dagan won the first game of the second set before retiring.
DiGiulio took down Sacramento State's Jacopo Antonelli in his first match and Pacific's Nico Rating in his second, both by the score of 6-2, 6-2.
"Today was a good day for Aggie tennis to put the work in and get the matches in that we need to improve," UC Davis head coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "I'm hopeful that we can come back tomorrow and respond in an even better way."
The two-day NorCal Invitational Shootout concludes Sunday.
