SEATTLE, Wash. — Ivan Savkin's run at the ITA Northwest Regional came to an end Sunday when he was defeated in three sets (6-1, 3-6, 2-6) by Santa Clara's Ferran Redza in his attempt to reach the quarterfinals. Savkin had earned a spot in the Round of 16 after victories over Pacific's Joshua Craze in the Round of 64 on Friday and California's Leonardo Cattaneo on Saturday in the Round of 32.
"Ivan has played really good tennis this fall," head coach Eric Steidlmayer said. "He played amazing in the first set of today's match, but unfortunately he wasn't able to sustain that level against a really tough opponent."
Savkin was the only Aggie to play Sunday but four Aggies are scheduled to play in upcoming ITA Northwest Regional consolation round matches that have yet to be scheduled. Kevin Taheri (vs. Vitomir Petcov, Portland State) and Nadaul Cheam (vs. Thomas Ransom, Sacramento State) have their opponents set in Round of 32 singles matches, while Aiden Mueller (vs. Tristan Hernandez, Gonzaga) is next scheduled for a Round of 16 match. In doubles, Taheri and Perry DiGiulio are slated to take on Oregon's Kohshi Ishibashi and Sam Olszakowski in the Round of 16.
