DAVIS, Calif. — A season-high 16 kills by
Gianna Bogan led UC Davis volleyball to its first sweep of the season in the first of two matches against Air Force on Thursday, Oct. 1.
FIRST SERVE
- By knocking off previously unbeaten Air Force, UC Davis now remains one of two programs still undefeated in Mountain West conference play. 2-0 Hawai'i begins a two game swing against GCU starting tomorrow night.
- Bogan's 16 kills led the Aggie offense and marked the fifth time during her freshman season she's gone for double-digit kills.
- The balanced offensive attack by UC Davis has continued to pay dividends for the team, with four players having 10 or more kills tonight.
- Ally Chandler ranked second with 15 kills, Brooke Hibino was third with 14, and Isabella Umpierre rounded out the group with 10.
- All of this offense was generated by Mia Starr, who had 46 assists on the night, just the fourth time she's had 45+ in a game this season.
- 10 digs also gives Starr a double-double for eighth time on the year.
- 25 digs by Ximena Cordero Barr led the defense and set a season-high for the libero. This was her fourth match on the season with 20 or more digs.
WHAT HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS HAD TO SAY
"Tonight was one of our better offensive nights. Hitters were taking big swings and forcing Air Force to play defense and in long rallies, that's what we talked about before the match. We came out with a good defensive effort as well, we didn't block a ton of balls but we slowed a lot of balls down and held their hitting percentage to around .150, which is excellent. I think overall we executed our gameplan and that was what it takes to beat a very good team."

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Off the first serve of the game by Cordero Barr, Chandler opened the action with a kill off a ball from Starr.
- Despite pushes from Air Force early in set one, Davis started to pull away early off a balanced offensive and defensive attack capitalized by five kills by Bogan.
- Up 20-16 late, service from Umpierre pushed her team to set point on a 4-1 run.
- Khloe Wong was next on the line, dumping the ball in before Chandler sealed a 25-17 win for her team.
- Set two began identically to the first, with another 4-1 service run putting the Aggies up 4-2 early.
- However, the Falcons swooped in on four straight points, taking their first lead of the night.
- Both teams battled back and forth from there, matching each other nearly point-for-point, with Air Force on top 15-14 at the media timeout.
- Coming out of the break, Davis began to turn things in their favor, with the only ace of the night going to Chandler on a 5-0 scoring run.
- From there, the home team was able to keep their opponent at bay, as another kill from Bogan secured a 25-20 set win and gave them a 2-0 lead.
- Ahead 8-7 to begin the third, the Aggies saw Air Force put together five straight points to take the biggest lead of the match.
- Unfettered, Davis used three points to cut into the lead, keeping with their opponent before a 5-0 run that featured four kills for Hibino gave them back the advantage at 18-16.
- Tied at 22, the Aggies put the finishing touches on the sweep, as Chandler got the touch on three straight points to complete a 25-22 and 3-0 victory.
