LA JOLLA, Calif. — Ashley Wallin set a new career high with four goals as No. 14 UC Davis women's water polo dropped a one-goal decision to No. 12 UC San Diego, 12–11, on day one of the 2026 Triton Invitational.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Davis opened the game with early momentum, with Sadie Henry scoring twice within the first minute to give the Aggies a quick advantage.
- UC San Diego responded with a pair of goals, but Chelsea Johnson and Wallin helped keep the game even before the Tritons closed the first quarter ahead 5–4.
- In the second quarter, UC San Diego added three goals to extend its lead to 8–6 at halftime. Bridget Miller secured a powerplay goal before Wallin continued her strong performance for the Aggies, scoring on another powerplay to keep UC Davis within striking distance.
- Coming out of the break, the Aggies battled back in the third quarter. Henry converted on the power play, while Wallin added two more goals as UC Davis tacked on three goals in the period and cut the deficit to one heading into the fourth.
- The Aggies opened the fourth quarter with a goal from Gianna Nocetti to even the score at 10–10.
- After UC San Diego regained the lead, Miller responded with a late goal off an assist from Nocetti to tie the game once again with just over a minute remaining.
- The Tritons netted the go-ahead goal in the last six seconds, earning UC Davis a final offensive possession ending the contest with a 12–11 final score.
- Wallin's four-goal performance marked a new career high, leading the Aggies offensively in the tightly contested matchup.
UP NEXT: The Aggies will continue action at the Triton Invitational tomorrow morning, facing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 8:30 a.m. PT. UC Davis will then compete again later in the day, with the second matchup scheduled for either 1:20 p.m. or 1:50 p.m. PT, depending on tournament results.
