Amelia Moneymaker (Gymnast of the Week),
Molly Osborne (Freshman of the Week) and
Avah Reichow (Specialist of the Week) all bringing home the honors as announced on Jan. 27 by the conference.
UC Davis used the top performances by the three Aggies to win its quad meet at Sacramento State on Saturday, Jan. 23, besting the Hornets, Western Michigan and UW-Whitewater at the Nest.
SENDING STRINGERS DOWN QUAD STYLE: Two event wins and the all-around crown for Moneymaker coupled with a team win on floor powered UC Davis gymnastics to a well-earned victory in the season's first quad meet, sending stingers down at hosting Sacramento State, this past Friday Jan. 23. UC Davis as a team won the floor event with a score of 48.600 and the 194.775 total score is a season high. The Aggies took the lead after the first rotation and never gave it back, getting top five finishes across all four rotations by Moneymaker, Reichow,
Avery Marshall,
Alana Kim,
Chloe Gann,
Jehaan Poonja and Osborne.
Moneymaker scored the first 9.900 by an Aggie this season, posting the score on beam for her fourth-career 9.900 mark on that event. It's the third-straight meet this season that Moneymaker has broken 39.000 in the all-around, taking the title with a score of 39.275. Moneymaker has now breached 39.000 in the all-around in 13 straight meets going back to Feb. 7, 2025.
Poonja posed a career-high mark of 9.800 to lead off for the Aggies on bars and her fifth-place score was matched by Gideon who tied a season-high with her own 9.800. Moneymaker scored a 9.825 on bars to tie a season-high for a second-place finish while on beam she took the event with her 9.900, helping the Aggies take the lead in the overall score. Osborne and Reichow played their parts as well, each posting career highs on beam. Finishing fourth, Osborne scored 9.800 while Reichow's 9.700 was a best in only her second career collegiate performance on beam.
UC Davis swept the podium on floor, taking all top three spots and they were led by Moneymaker's season-high score of 9.875. Reichow came in second, tying a career-high with a score of 9.850 while Marshall added her own career-high score of 9.800. And on vault the Aggies wrapped up their quad victory, led by Kim's fourth-place 9.775 and a pair of Aggies finishing fifth, UC Davis secured the win.
OPENING HOME FOR BUSINESS: In the Aggie home opener on Jan. 18 against San Jose State, UC Davis finished behind the Spartans but were led by
Amelia Moneymaker who scored 39.225 in the all-around to bring home that title. Moneymaker won two events on her way to the all-around title, scoring 9.825 on bars and 9.850 on beam to win those events. The Aggie all-rounder extended her school record of 18 times breaking the 39.000 mark in the all-around and it's the second-straight meet she has broken that 39.000 threshold.
Milla Gideon posted a second-place finishing mark of 9.800 on bars.
Sierra Muns scored 9.800 on floor, giving the Aggies their highest score in that event and putting Muns in second overall
WELCOMING BACK 50 YEARS OF AGGIES: In 1976 UC Davis gymnastics took the floor for the first time and for the past 50 years the Aggies have been competing at a national level, so when it was time to bring everyone together at the 2026 home opener, over 200 former Aggies returned to Davis to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of UC Davis gymnastics. On Jan. 18, the Aggies welcomed San Jose State to the University Credit Union center and around that meet the celebration took place.
Hosted and organized by former coach Ray Goldbar and his wife Molly, the Aggies were able to make it a special day by collecting memorabilia and reconnecting with many former Ags who had not been back to Davis since graduating.
220 former Aggies and their families made it a special day that started with a meet and greet at the Bruce Edwards Club Room at UC Davis Health Stadium, before moving to the arena for the dual meet and a post-meet reception. Before the meet, the large group of returning Aggies were honored on the floor and a video of photos from the past 50 years ran for all to enjoy.
UNDER WAY IN THE DESERT: Alana Kim's career-high 9.825 on vault set the pace for UC Davis gymnastics in its season opening tri-meet at Arizona State that saw the Aggies finish third with a final score of 193.250 on Jan. 11. Kim finished tied for fourth on vault and just finished outside the top 10 on floor after tying for 11th with a mark of 9.700
Amelia Moneymaker finished tied for second on the all-around, totaling 39.100 adding to the versatile Aggie's school record with her 17th all-around score of at least 39.000. Moneymaker's best finish came on floor when she posted a fourth-place score of 9.825
50th ANNIVERSARY: 2025 also doubles as Aggies' 50th Anniversary with the season acting as a celebration for the history of the program. In 1974, led by Ray Goldbar, both women's and men's UC Davis gymnastics took the floor for the first time and for the past 50 years the Aggies have been setting championship standards. During those 50 years the Aggies have won three national championships, bringing home the AIWA Division III title in 1980 and 1981 and the 1999 USAG Division II title.
Led by Goldbar, Pete Gibson, John Lavalle and current head coach
Tanya Ho Gomez, UC Davis has produced 130 All-Americans and 32 national qualifiers. The Aggies can also claim 22 individual national champions, with Flora Bara; Tiffany Chan; Nicole Doherty; Jill Henrie; Yuri Hinson; Keitha Hunter; Michelle Kulovitz; Ericka Ruelas; Lynn Schwaebe; Frossene Shuck; Cheryl Sidel and Stacy Wong all bringing home at least one national title in the Blue and Gold.
