DALLAS, Texas — No. 7 UC Davis equestrian opened up the spring season taking on No. 6 SMU. Despite several tightly contested rides, the Aggies came up short against the Mustangs, 15-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Davis opened the meet in Fences, where the Aggies delivered a number of competitive rides against a strong Mustangs lineup.
Chloe Fares led off with an 82 aboard Emil, narrowly falling by three to her opponent.
Cavan Smith followed with a 79 on Hardy, coming up just two points shy of a win.
Lauren Kolbe delivered the highlight of the discipline, earning UC Davis' lone point with a standout 84 on Zulu, beating her opponent by seven points and posting the team's highest score.
In the western arena,
Katya Dundas led UC Davis in Horsemanship with a 72 aboard Konner, edging her opponent by 2.5 points to secure the team's lone win in the event.
Eliza Plum added a 72 on Money, finishing within 2.5 points of her opponent, while
Kylie Jacobson the lineup 73 on Austin, earning the highest score for the aggies but coming up just short of her opponent's 74.5
The Aggies showed resilience in Flat, with Kolbe 's impressive score of 84 aboard Zulu to earn the first point of the event and the highest score for UC Davis. Beating her opponent by six points, she was awarded the MOP honor for her ride.
Sophia Blake followed with a 71 on Charlie, missing a point by two, before Smith added another win with a 78 aboard Chunky, topping her opponent by four points. Despite the strong showing, SMU narrowly claimed the discipline, 3–2.
In Reining,
Avery Adamson opened with a 70.5 on Shooter, earning UC Davis' lone point and the highest score of the discipline. The Aggies remained competitive throughout the lineup, with
Mylea Trimble earning a 69 on Tberg and
Ada Hirschfeld following with a 69.5 on Tuni, both shy by just one point against their opponents and capping the spring opener with a hard fought performance from the Aggies.
UP NEXT: The Aggies continue their road stretch tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 29, with a matchup against TCU set for 10 a.m. PT.
