The short story: Jade Light led UC Davis volleyball with 10 kills, but the Aggies would lose in three to the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday, Sept. 14.

FIRST SERVE
  • Light paced the offense with 10 kills, also digging eight balls on the afternoon.
  • Mia Starr effectively set up her teammates with a team-high 15 assists.
  • Ally Chandler was excellent defensively for the second straight day, knocking down five total blocks.
  • In her second game in the blue and gold, Maike Bertens Deckart got her first kill as an Aggie.
WHAT HEAD COACH DAN CONNERS HAD TO SAY

"We were certainly outmatched this afternoon. I thought the group really competed hard and did what they could. We played really well in some areas of the game. This was a fantastic match for us to learn and be exposed to the areas we need to grow. Looking forward to getting back at it."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Stanford opened with five points, Breeze Czapinski got the Aggies on the board with a kill.
  • Kills from Allie Caldwell and Brooke Hibino led the way, but Davis would find themselves down 6-10 before an 11-0 run from the opponent.
  • An assist from Laela Burgess gave Bertens Deckart her first point of the match, but the Aggies would fall 10-25 in the first set.
  • Davis would begin the second by pacing the Cardinal, matching their opponents in points to tie things 4-4 early.
  • Halfway through the frame, a block from Chandler and Czapinski saw the road team down only three, 11-14.
  • But Stanford would begin to pull away, using a 6-3 run to go up 20-14.
  • The Aggies capitalized on an error from the home team, looking to gain momentum, but the Cardinal would score the final five of the frame to win 25-16 and go up 2-0.
  • Set number three started similarly to the second, with Davis matching each scoring run from their opponent to find themselves down only one, 10-11.
  • But another 5-0 run from Stanford would put them up by six.
  • Light led the offense the rest of the way with three kills, but it wouldn't be enough as the Aggies would drop the third 18-25 and see Stanford win 3-0.

UP NEXT: The Aggies will wrap up non-conference play when they travel to Berkeley on Wednesday, Sept. 17, to take on California at 7:00 p.m. PT. The match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
