HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- After a defensive-heavy first six minutes, Cal took a penalty shot in the back of the net to strike first.
- Following another goal a minute later, Ting got on the board first for the Aggies to make it 2-1 after the first period.
- The scoring began to heat up in the second quarter, with both teams combining for ten goals.
- Andrew Hitchcock and Ting both got on the scoresheet with their team on the man-advantage, trading goals with the Golden Bears.
- Halfway through the period, after Cal tacked on two, Thomas Kiesling took his first of the day to get Davis within two.
- The home team would respond with another pair of goals, but Oriol Viñas scored in the final second to see the road team down 5-8 at the half.
- Two minutes into the second half, Hitchcock would secure his second of the day, but his was the only goal for the Aggies in the third, who entered the fourth down 6-12.
- Period four was all about Shatskikh, who opened the quarter with two quick goals followed by the third from Ting to secure a hat trick and put his team back within three.
- California would strike back a minute later, but two more goals, one on the advantage and one from a penalty shot, would give Shatskikh his fourth in five minutes and make the score 13-11 in favor of the Golden Bears.
- Thirty seconds later, Brody Crouch would put the Aggies back within one.
- But two goals were the response from Cal, who responded to make it a three-score lead with 90 seconds to play.
- Kiesling would get his second to cut the deficit to two, but that would be the last score from Davis, who would fall 13-16 in a shootout.
UP NEXT: Following a home exhibition against Pacific on Sunday, the Aggies will head south to compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invite from Friday, Sept. 19, to Sunday, Sept. 21. Matchups will be announced at a later date.
