THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis showed plenty of Aggie Pride in a tough road test at LSU, jumping out to an early lead behind a goal from
Genavieve Fontes and later reclaiming the advantage when
Lisette Gregoris netted her first career collegiate goal. The Aggies battled through relentless pressure from the host Tigers, holding a halftime lead, but LSU found two second-half goals to edge UC Davis, 3-2, on Sunday night in Baton Rouge.
PITCH SIDE
- Fontes' goal was her second of 2025, as she becomes one of just 13 players in the conference with multiple scores early in the season
- Gregoris delivered a milestone moment with her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute, pushing UC Davis back in front
- The Aggies defense was gritty from start to finish, highlighted by six saves from Cat Pieper as LSU fired 27 total shots
- LSU capitalized in the second half with a pair of goals in a two-minute span to flip the result
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pressure up front created the first goal of the game for UC Davis with the LSU goalkeeper's clearance effort ricocheting off Fontes' body, finding the back of the net in the process for the early 1-0 lead
- LSU leveled in the 21st minute as Ida Hermannsdottir converted on a penalty kick
- The Aggies regained the advantage late in the first half when Gregoris, who had just subbed on, buried a strike into the top right corner for her first career goal, putting UC Davis up 2-1 at halftime
- LSU leveled the game in the 67th minute on a finish from Morgan Witz
- Less than two minutes later, Hermannsdottir struck again to give herself a brace, giving LSU the 3-2 lead in the processÂ
- The game would hold to a 3-2 final despite the Aggies' push in the final 20 minutes
