DAVIS, Calif. – Already heavily recognized across several publications Rex Connors has gained another nod, this time being named the top returning safety in the Football Championship Subdivision by HERO Sports as part of their 2025 FCS season preview.
 
The UC Davis football senior defensive back was named to the 2025 Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List placing him among the nation's best 30 defenders and he has earned a pair of preseason All-American honors from STATS Perform and FCS Football Central.
 
Connors was also recently named to the East-West Shrine Bowl 1000 and he became the first Aggie safety in program history to be named the Big Sky Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and he also earned Preseason Big Sky All-Conference honors.
 
His 2024 All-American season was record-breaking finishing with a program record 74 solo tackles, finishing with a total tally of 115 on the season.

Not to be outdone transfer Khalani Riddick landed on the list as well, being named the No. 12 returning safety in the nation.
 
UC Davis opens 2025 on Aug. 23 in Montgomery, Ala., when they face No. 12 Mercer in the 2025 FCS Kickoff Classic. That game is set to kickoff at 4 p.m. PT and will be aired on ESPN and can be heard on Sactown Sports 1140. The Aggies open UC Davis Health Stadium on Sept. 20 when Southern Utah visits Davis for a 7 p.m. kick.
