Men's Basketball Adds Mike Kosich To Staff

DAVIS, Calif. – Ahead of the 2025-26 season, UC Davis head men's basketball coach Jim Les has announced the addition of Mike Kosich to the Aggies' coaching staff. Kosich will serve in a dual role as Assistant Coach and Chief of Staff, joining the program during a pivotal time as UC Davis prepares to transition to the Mountain West Conference in 2026.

Kosich arrives in Davis after most recently serving as a recruiting analyst at San Diego State University under head coach Brian Dutcher. The Aztecs earned a 2025 NCAA Tournament berth following a 21-12 season. Prior to his time at SDSU, Kosich held the position of Assistant Coach and Chief of Staff at the University of South Alabama, where he worked under head coach Richie Riley. During his tenure, the Jaguars reached the 2021 CBI Tournament Final Four and the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship, while never posting a losing season.

"Mike brings an unmatched passion and energy to our program," Les said. "His knowledge of the game, combined with a relentless work ethic, will make him an invaluable part of our staff and a huge asset to our players. He's a rising star in the coaching profession, and we're excited to have him join our team."

"I'm incredibly fortunate to be joining the UC Davis men's basketball program," Kosich said. "What Coach Les has built here is something you don't see often in college basketball—real continuity and a culture rooted in longevity and trust. That kind of foundation is exactly the type of environment I want to be part of, contribute to, and grow in for the long term."

"Joining the Mountain West is a tremendous step for UC Davis, and doing so under the leadership of Coach Les made this opportunity a no-brainer," Kosich added. "I can't wait to get to work and help build what's next for Aggie basketball."

In his hybrid role, Kosich will be involved in both the strategic direction and overall day-to-day operations of the program. His responsibilities include roster construction, travel organization, community engagement, and serving as a liaison between the basketball program and university leadership. As Assistant Coach, he will also contribute to recruiting, player development, practice planning, game preparation, and opponent scouting.
