Former Aggie Max Arfsten Named to 2025 MLS All-Star Team Roster

Crew Standout Earns First Selection While on USMNT Gold Cup Duty

DAVIS, Calif. — Former UC Davis men's soccer standout Max Arfsten, now a key defender for Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew and the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT), has been named to the 26-player roster for the 2025 MLS All-Star Game.

Arfsten, 24, earns his first career MLS All-Star selection. He is one of eight defenders named to the squad, which will face top players from Mexico's Liga MX on Wednesday, July 23, at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.

Roster selections were determined via fan voting (12 players), MLS All-Star head coach Nico Estévez (12 players), and MLS Commissioner Don Garber (2 players). Arfsten secured his spot as one of Estévez's coach's selections.

The Fresno, California, native has been a consistent force on the Crew backline in 2025, starting 16 matches and contributing significantly to the attack with three goals and three assists. His game-winning goal against the San Jose Earthquakes on April 26 highlighted his offensive capabilities from defense. Since joining Columbus in 2023, Arfsten has made 59 regular-season appearances (42 starts), tallying nine goals and 13 assists. He also boasts three postseason appearances with two goals.

Concurrently, Arfsten is representing the United States at the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup. He earned his seventh international cap in the tournament and recorded his first two career assists for the USMNT in a 5-0 group stage victory over Trinidad and Tobago on June 15. Arfsten and the USMNT face Costa Rica in the Gold Cup quarterfinals this Sunday, June 29, at 4 p.m. PT before he joins the MLS All-Star squad.
