The short story: Big West Preseason All-Conference selection Bryan Green continued his career-long success against UC Santa Barbara, tossing 8.0 shutout innings with six strikeouts as he and Mason Lerma combined to blank the Gauchos in Friday night's series opener at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

Green found his rhythm as the game progressed, recording at least one strikeout in each of the first four innings
The Gauchos threatened in the fifth after a leadoff single
This leadoff runner for the Gauchos made his way to third with only one out in the frame but Green escaped unscathed, aided by Ryan Lee's backhanded stab at third to nearly turn a double play, followed by a lineout
The Aggies nearly extended their lead in the eighth, putting runners on first and second with one out after singles from Howard and Wooldridge
But UC Santa Barbara came through with some a strong defensive play of their own, a double play after a pitching change to keep the deficit at one
Lerma entered in the ninth, allowing a leadoff single before locking it down with a strikeout, a flyout, and another strikeout to secure the combined shutout
