FIRST PITCH
- UC Davis exploded for four runs in the first inning and never relinquished the lead
- Rowen Barnes picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis
- The right-hander went one shutout inning while giving up one hit, allowing no walks and striking out two
- Evan Gentil led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in the first
- Riley Acosta (1-for-4) added an RBI double, and Nick Leehey (2-for-4) launched a solo shot in the third
- Sacramento State sophomore Jakob Poturnak paced the Hornets, finishing 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs
- With the win, UC Davis secured hosting rights for two of three games in next season's series
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies struck immediately on Acosta's RBI double before Gentil's three-run blast capped the four-run outburst
- Leehey extended the lead to 5-0 with a solo homer to deep center field in the third
- Korey Williams' sacrifice fly made it 6-0 in the fourth inning and would prove to be an especially important insurance run for UC Davis
- Sacramento State answered with two unearned runs in the bottom half to make it 6-2
- The Hornets trimmed the deficit to 6-5 but it was Barnes keeping the Aggies ahead, recording a pair of strikeouts and getting a key fly out to limit the damage to just two runs after entering with a jam with no outs
- Sacramento State put the tying run on base, but Delaney who had taken a 106 mph comebacker of his leg, stranded him to secure the save
