The short story: UC Davis softball dropped the series finale at Cal State Fullerton in heartbreaking fashion, losing in the seventh inning on a walk off hit that gave the Titans the Saturday afternoon win after last night's marathon doubleheader.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Kayla Macias hit her first career home run, scoring a run and collecting three RBIs
- Mickey Buscemi went 2-for-3 and made a great diving catch in center field
- Gia Felice also had a two-hit day, scoring a run
- Ashley Sawai made the start, going five innings and giving up no walks
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cal State Fullerton scored a run in the opening frame on an RBI double, but from that point on Sawai locked in
- Over the next four innings the Titans got just two hits and twice Sawai sat the Titans down in order
- UC Davis took its first lead of the weekend when Felice got things started with an infield single
- Grace Kilday reached on a fielder's choice and one out Macias stepped into the box
- After working the count full, Macias got a fastball she could handle hitting a no doubt home run off the base of the left field scoreboard to give the Aggies a 3-1 lead
- Unfortunately, the Aggies could not build on that lead, and in the sixth Cal State Fullerton scored a pair of runs to tie things up at 3-3 and set up the seventh inning
- In the bottom of the seventh, a leadoff single eventually came around to score on an RBI ground ball that locked up the 4-3 win for Cal State Fullerton in the series finale
UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: UC Davis returns to La Rue Field on Tuesday, April 22 for a midweek matchup against Fresno State. That game is set to get going at 3 p.m.
