DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis football hit UC Davis Health Stadium for its second scrimmage of the spring season battling under the sun as the Aggies now set their eyes on the Spring Game set to kickoff next Saturday, April 26 at 4 p.m.
Â
With officials on the field calling the practice and drills realistically, the Aggies made it sound like fall with a physical defensive and offensive showing. Both the Aggie offense and defense had special moments with big plays in the open field from the defensive side complemented by explosive offensive plays on the ground and in the air.
Â
Saturday's scrimmage was the 10th practice of the spring season, meaning the Aggies have just five practices left including April 26th Spring Game.
Â
"It has been a competitive and great spring so far, despite us having limited numbers," said head coach
Tim Plough. "Because of those numbers we can only run two teams in drills, but that has allowed for some guys to really shine.
Â
"Guys like
David Porotesano,
Jake Williams and
Rayne Mayo Jr. have had great reps all spring and the battle between
Grant Harper and
Caden Pinnick has been fun to watch. Both Harper and Pinnick have had great moments, and moments to learn from as they both work to get better."
Â
On Saturday, April 12 the Aggies had their first scrimmage of the spring. With that one acting as the first chance for the team to mimic a real game atmosphere while also getting officials on the field to call the game like it will in the fall. And with the second scrimmage in the bank the Aggies now settle into "Game Week" as they prep for Saturday's big day.
Â
The Spring Game is free of charge for all fans, and there will be plenty of opportunities for fans to win Aggie gear along with other great events. Post game, the team will host a Youth Combine and fans will be welcomed onto the field for a chance to get autographs of their favorite Aggies.
Â
"This Saturday is our Spring Game and we really hope to see the entire community come out," said Plough. "We want that day to become one that the student body and Davis community have marked on their calendars every year as we showcase Shredville and interact closer with everyone. We look forward to seeing all of Davis come out next Saturday."
Â
It was also an opportunity to showcase to the fans who came out the hard work the Aggies have been putting in during the spring as they get closer to Spring Game ready.
Â
Fans are encouraged and welcome to swing by and check the Aggies out anytime over the next month before coming out to the Aggie Spring Game.
