The short story: UC Davis softball fell in a Big West doubleheader against UC San Diego, falling in both games under clear skies at La Rue Field on Friday afternoon.

LEADING OFF
- Ashley Sawai started the first game, going the full seven innings while striking out four batters in the complete game performance
- Bri Weekes went 2-for-5 with one walk over the two games
- Rylee Reeves had a 2-for-7 days, with one double and three total bases
- Alyssa Dethlefson provided 1.1 innings of relief in the second game, giving up no earned runs and zero walks
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- Over the first two frames, both sides were kept off the board by each other, with Sawai not allowing a hit over those innings
- UC San Diego scored one in the third and three more in the fourth to build out a 4-0 lead after three and a half innings
- In the fourth, the Aggies got on the board when Kayla Macias smashed a double to left that scored Mickey Buscemi and got the Ags on the board at 4-1
- Sawai locked in over the next three innings, allowing just two hits during the final frames. But the Aggie offense would not get going and eventually the Aggies dropped the opening game of the doubleheader, 4-1
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- UC San Deigo scored two runs in the first, second, third and fifth to build out its lead that ended the game early, 9-1, due to the run rule
- During the game the Aggie committed seven errors, meaning that of the nine runs scored only two were earned
- Caroline Grimes threw 3.2 innings, giving up two earned runs before Dethlefson finished the game with 1.1 innings of relief work
