The short story: UC Davis got the tying run into scoring position in the bottom of the ninth but was unable to cash in, as San Francisco took Tuesday night's game at Phil Swimley Field, giving the Dons their second straight win.

FIRST PITCH
  • UC Davis pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts, allowing only one earned run and two free passes
  • Matt Barnes II was lights out for the Aggies, coming out of the bullpen to throw two shutout innings, allowing no hits, no walks, and recording two strikeouts
  • UC Davis pitchers limited San Francisco to 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position
  • Offensively, UC Davis left 10 runners stranded on base
  • The Aggies drew four walks from San Francisco pitching
  • Houston Hirschkorn led the Aggies at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI
  • Nick Leehey scored UC Davis' lone run of the game
  • Also picking up hits for the Aggies were Ryan Lee and Alex Gouveia
  • San Francisco was led offensively by Patrick Keighran, who went 1-for-4 with a home run
  • Quentin Pohorski led the Dons' pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings and picking up the save

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Aggies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning
  • UC Davis got an RBI single from Hirschkorn, scoring Leehey from second base
  • The Aggies kept San Francisco off the board until the fifth inning, when the Dons capitalized on an error to score their first run and tie the game at 1-1
  • San Francisco's offensive efforts continued in the following inning, with Keighran hitting a home run over the left-field fence to take a one-run lead in the sixth
  • After the homer, both teams were led by their pitching staffs, with a combined 11 strikeouts from the top of the sixth to the end of the game
  • A single from Hirschkorn began the bottom of the ninth and gave the Aggies some late hope
  • He was pinch-run for by Ethan Kang, and pinch-hitter Joey Wright, who leads the country in sacrifice bunts, advanced him to second
  • Despite this, San Francisco, behind Pohorski's performance, shut down the Aggies with a strikeout and a groundout to end the game and hold on for the 2-1 win

UP NEXT: UC Davis stays on the road this weekend, traveling to Omaha, Nebraska, to play Creighton at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, the home of the College World Series. The series with the Bluejays is scheduled to start Friday, with dates and time subject to change based on weather.
