The short story: UC Davis softball scored two runs in the sixth to mount a late comeback, but with a late run by Hawaii the Aggie attempts at erasing a deficit fell short in the rubber game of this weekend's Big West Conference showdown.
Â
LEADING OFF
- Sydney Polii went 2-for-4 with one home run (the first of her career) one double and a run scored
- Grace Kilday also went 2-for-4 with one triple and she threw her 12th runner of the season
- Alyssa Dethlefson and Rylee Reeves each added a hit, with Dethlefson recording an RBI
- Ashely Sawai pitched 6.0 innings, striking out three batters while walking just one
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first inning, Hawaii got a pair of runs right off the bat to take a 2-0 lead
- But from that point, Sawai dug in not allowing a run over the next four frames to keep the Aggies in position to erase Hawaii's lead
- Polli finally got the Aggies on the board with a home run to left center to make it 2-1 with no outs in the frame
- Dethlefson would knock in the tying run when her two out double scored Sofia Anderson (pinch run) from second base, knotting things up at 2-2
- But in the bottom of the sixth, Hawaii got one across to retake the lead and after the Aggies were unable to score a run in the seventh Hawaii finished off its 3-2 win in the series finale
UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: UC Davis returns to La Rue Field next weekend, Mar. 29-30 when Long Beach State makes the trip for a Big West matchup.
