The short story: An eight run eighth inning powered UC Davis softball to a first game win before dropping the second game to split its Big West doubleheader at Hawaii.

LEADING OFF
- Ashley Sawai went 1-0 over 6.2 innings in the two games, giving up just one earned run and striking out six batters
- Grace Kilday smashed a home run, going 4-for-8 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a slugging percentage of .875
- Sydney Polli went 4-for-8 with two runs scored and one RBI
- Mickey Buscemi (two walks) and Gia Felice each had a pair of hits in the two games, each scoring a run in the first game
- Marley Panziera, Bella Holtz and Alyssa Dethlefson led the Aggies in the power department, with Panziera hitting a home run, Dethlefson a triple and Holtz a double
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE)
- The Aggies got three runs right at the go, getting a pair of home runs in the first inning to take a quick 3-0 lead
- Kilday smashed a two-run home run that scored Polli, who had singled through the right side in the previous at bat, making it 2-0
- With two outs, Panziera took a 2-2 pitch to left center giving the Aggies a 3-0 after just one inning
- UC Davis added another run in the fourth, with an RBI single that scored Felice to make it 4-0 after two frames
- Hawaii would crawl back over the next handful of innings, scoring one run in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie things at 4-4 and eventually force extra innings
- In the eighth inning the Aggies cracked open the safe and pulled out eight runs to build an insurmountable lead
- The Aggies loaded the bases and with one out Dethlefson cleared the bases by smacking a triple to right center that scored Rylee Reeves, Kilday and Polli giving UC Davis a 7-4 lead
- Holtz's double made it 8-4 and with two outs Polli stepped up after Buscemi kept it going with a single
- Polli singled to left to score Sofia Anderson, Kilday singled to score Kiera Brady and Reeves knocked in a pair of Aggies with a single to make it 12-4
- Sawai gave up a leadoff double, but then locked it down to get the next three batters and following a game ending strike out the Aggies finished off their 12-4 doubleheader opening win
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
- Hawaii scored two runs in the second, one in the fourth and two more in the sixth to collect its six runs used to build out a 6-0 win
- Sawai struck out three batters over three innings, giving up just one earned run in relief work
- Buscemi drew a pair of walks in the leadoff spot to set the pace for the Aggies at the top
