LEADING OFF
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Davis opened the scoring when Dethlefson was brought home by Panziera in the first and in the fourth the Aggies added another on an RBI single from Brady making it 2-0
- But in the bottom of the fourth, Sacramento State tied the game with a two-run home run to center field
- The Aggies had an answer for the Hornets in the fifth
- Panziera and Reeves both reached on singles to open the frame and it set up the McFarland with a chance for a big hit
- With the count at 2-1, McFarland stayed inside the ball, going to the opposite field for a two RBI triple that put the Aggies in front 4-2
- Kalanetra brought McFarland home with an bunt single left perfectly in front of the plate to extend the Aggie lead to 5-2 heading into the bottom half of the fifth
- But as was the nature of the day, Sacramento State answered right back, scoring four runs in the inning with the big blow coming in the form of a three-run home run that pushed Sacramento State into the lead, 6-5
- UC Davis could not get one more across to extend the game to extras over the next six outs, eventually falling 6-5
UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: The Aggies next head to Stockton, Calif., where they will see BYU and Pacific on Friday, Feb. 28.
