THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis came up just short Wednesday night, falling 79-78 to Seattle U at the University Credit Union Center. After erasing an early deficit in a game filled with lead changes and momentum swings, the tightly contested contest was ultimately decided in the final seconds at the free-throw line.

  • Seattle U answered to the Aggie run down the stretch, but a late three from Sevilla and the Aggies would send the game into halftime tied at 43-43.
  • The Aggies leaned on their perimeter shooting in the opening half, with eight three-pointers accounting for 24 of their 43 points.
  • Seattle U built a 71-67 advantage midway through the second half before UC Davis answered with a 5-0 run, finished by a Nils Cooper layup, to reclaim a 72-71 lead with 3:25 remaining.
  • Seattle U closed the game by outscoring UC Davis 8-6 over the final minutes.
  • With UC Davis holding a foul to give in the closing seconds, a late sequence was ruled continuation, sending Heimbrodt to the free-throw line.
  • Heimbrodt converted the decisive free throw, securing the 79-78 decision for the Redhawks.
