Light, Starr, and Cordero Barr Named Big West Players of the Year

DAVIS, Calif. — The Big West announced its volleyball All-Conference teams and annual awards on Tuesday, Nov. 25, with three Aggies earning top individual honors. Senior Jade Light was named Player of the Year, junior Mia Starr earned Setter of the Year, and sophomore Ximena Cordero Barr was selected as Libero of the Year.

Jade Light — Player of the Year

A First-Team All-Big West honoree, Light has been one of the conference's most complete players all season. She leads the Big West with 3.99 kills per set, ranks 10th with 26 service aces, and sits 13th with 246 total digs. She has also contributed 37 total blocks at the net.

Light's versatility translated into 10 double-doubles this season, and she was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week three times.

Mia Starr — Setter of the Year

After earning Big West Honorable Mention last season and a First-Team selection this year, Starr has been the engine of the Aggie offense. She leads the conference with 1,009 total assists and 10.40 assists per set.

Starr has been named Setter of the Week four times and has recorded eight double-doubles. In a home win over UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 23, she posted a season-high 54 assists, along with 14 digs and two block assists, helping fuel a key comeback.

Ximena Cordero Barr — Libero of the Year

In her first season as UC Davis's libero, Cordero Barr has made an immediate defensive impact, ranking second in the Big West with 4.59 digs per set.

The former Big West All-Freshman selection has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors three times. She set a then-career-high 35 digs in a four-set win over UC Irvine on Oct. 4, and surpassed that mark with 36 digs in the Aggies' comeback victory over CSUN in the penultimate match of the regular season.

With these performances, the Aggies dominated the Big West in 2025, rewriting the record books along the way. UC Davis set program and individual milestones, including the most conference wins in a single season, the first Big West championship in school history, the most career wins by a head coach, and the program's first-ever undefeated home season.

UP NEXT

With the No. 1 seed secured in the Big West Tournament, the Aggies will have the next six days off from competition and take on the winner of the UC Santa Barbara and CSUN match on Wednesday afternoon. The Aggies' first postseason match will take place on Friday, Nov. 28, at 3:00 p.m. PT, and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
