Aggies Take Down Titans In First Round of Big West Championships

The short story: A balanced offensive attack from UC Davis water polo gave the team a 14-9 win in the first round of the Big West Championships over sixth seeded Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Nov. 21. The Aggies are set to face off against UC Santa Barbara tomorrow afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Fullerton opened the scoring, Oriol Viñas found the back of the net to spark a 6-0 run for the Aggies.
  • Mateo Ruano, Adam Ting, Brody Crouch, and Will Stryker contributed to the scoring run, giving the Ags a 6-2 lead after the first period.
  • The Titans struck back with a quick score four minutes into period two, but Andrew Hitchcock and Thomas Marr made up the Davis scoring to give the team a 8-3 advantage at halftime.
  • Coming out of the break, Hitchcock extended the lead to six for his second goal of the day.
  • Timothy Kerr and William Fosselman added to the tally, but CSUF outscored the Aggies 4-3 to enter the final frame down 7-13.
  • Ting and Andrew Bonelli found the back of the net to open period four for Davis.
  • With two minutes remaining, the Titans added on two quick scores, but Ruano's second ended the scoring for both teams and helped lead the Aggies to a 14-9 victory.
