BISHOP, Ga. – UC Davis equestrian claimed a win in Reining against No. 2 South Carolina, taking the event 3-1 thanks to several strong individual rides. Despite the Western victory, the Aggies fell 12-4 in their first road meet of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Junior Lauren Kolbe picked up the lone point and highest score in Fences as she delivered a standout performance of 86 aboard Everest. Sophomore Sabine Close and sophomore Anna Donovan also posted solid scores, with Close earning an 80 on Watson and Donovan earning a 75 on Benny.
In the Western arena senior Katya Dundas opened Horsemanship with a competitive ride on Olive, scoring a 75 and the highest score of the event, narrowly missing a point as her opponent earned a 76. Sophomore Eliza Plum followed with another close score, falling not even one point behind her opponent, earning a 73.5 on Charli.
In Flat the Aggies came in determined, all posting scores over 80. Sophomore Carmen Gonzalez opened the event with an 83.5 aboard Sal. Kolbe followed with an 89 on Everest, an impressive ride that just missed the win by one point. Freshman Cavan Smith then posted the highest score of the event and entire meet with an outstanding score of 90 on Miso, though her opponent's 92.5 kept the point just out of reach. Closing the event, sophomore Sophia Blake earned an 82 on Love.
The Ags dominated in Reining, scoring three straight points to close out the meet and taking the event 3-1 against the Gamecocks. Senior Mya Clader opened the event aboard JJ, narrowly missing the point with a 70.25 against her opponent's 70.75 score. Junior Mylea Trimble earned the first point and highest score of the event for UC Davis with a 72 on Ty, followed by senior Nicole Shroyer scoring a 71.75 aboard Royce for another point. Closing out the meet, Ada Hirschfeld secured the third straight point for the Aggies with a 70.75 on Slash and was named the MOP of the event, capping a dominating Reining performance.
