Caden Pinnick has been recognized as one of the top 22 freshmen in the nation earning the honor of being named to the 2025 Stats Perform Jerry Rice Award Watch List adding to a growing list of accolades for the Aggie quarterback.

Pinnick becomes the first Aggie to earn the honor since
Rex Connors was named to both the watch list and the finalist list during the 2022 season. He also becomes the first Aggie on the offensive side of the ball to earn the honor since 2018 when Ulonzo Gilliam Jr. was named to the Rice Award watch list.

So far this season Pinnick has been leading the Aggies under center with the poise of and upperclassmen helping get UC Davis off to a 3-0 start in Big Sky Conference play. The Aggie quarterback has gong 104-for-150 totaling 1,414 passing yards, adding 16 passing touchdowns with only two interceptions.

Pinnick has a completion percentage of 69.3 percent and has been averaging 235.7 passing yards per game. Starting all six games for the Aggies, Pinnick has rushed for 127 yards on 55 attempts, adding two more touchdowns on the ground for an average of 21.2 rushing yards per game.

Nationally, Pinnick ranks third in passing efficiency (181.1); seventh in points responsible per game (18.0) and yards per pass attempt (9.4); eighth in passing touchdowns; ninth in completion percentage and 18th in passing yards per game and passing yards per completion (13.6).

His 85-yard touchdown pass to Samuel Gbatu Jr. against Weber State still sits as the fourth-longest passing play in the nation this season and his five passing touchdowns thrown against than-ranked No. 14 Northern Arizona ties for the second-most in a single game nationally this season.

Pinnick has earned five weekly awards so far this season, tying a conference record when he was named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for three-straight weeks from Sept. 27-Oct. 11. He has also twice earned national honors, gaining Stats Perform National Freshman of the Week honors after the first game of the season and with his performance in the Aggie win over Weber State he was named to FCS Nation Radio National Offensive Player of the Week.

The Rice Award, celebrating its 15th anniversary season, is named after legendary Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, who starred in the Football Championship Subdivision at Mississippi Valley State.
