THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis battled conference-leading CSUN for a full 90 minutes, narrowly falling 1-0 on the road Sunday afternoon. The Aggies generated several strong looks, including a near equalizer from Summer Humphreys that struck the crossbar early in the second half, but the Matadors held firm to secure the result.

PITCH SIDE

  • Sarah Canavan, Sydney Bushman Karla Sandoval and Lisette Gregoris each placed a shot on target for the Aggies
  • UC Davis recorded nine total shots, including four on frame, while holding CSUN scoreless in the second half
  • The Aggies' back line, which included full 90-minute efforts from Livi Lewis, Kylee Redman, and Humphreys, held firm against a CSUN squad that now sits in first place in the Big West standings
  • Pieper anchored the defense alongside the backline with four saves

  • The Matadors however capitalized in the 30th minute when Yasmin Azar scored off a pass from Ariah Velazquez to take a 1-0 lead
  • The Aggies continued to press late in the half, as Lisette Gregoris forced a save just before the break
  • The Aggies opened the second half aggressively, with Humphreys' shot hitting the crossbar just seconds after kickoff and Canavan's 52nd-minute strike forcing another save
  • UC Davis created several late looks, including an effort from McKayla Farrell in the 85th minute, but CSUN held on for the narrow win
