The short story: A career-high five goals from
Andrew Hitchcock gave UC Davis men's water polo a conference win over Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 17. The Aggies start Big West play 2-0 for the third straight year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ags came out of the gate firing, with Hitchcock, Oriol Viñas, Thomas Kiesling, and Oleg Shatskikh giving the team a 4-0 lead just three minutes in.
- Fullerton would get their first on the board before Hitchcock secured the hat trick to go along with scores from Adam Ting and Thomas Marr gave the team an 8-1 lead after the first.
- The offensive onslaught continued into the second quarter as Max Prokhin, Gabe Bensen, and Timothy Kerr found the back of the net for the first time.
- With two minutes left in the half, Hitchcock claimed his first four-goal game of his career, leading his team to a 13-3 lead after 16 minutes of play.
- Two minutes into the third, Hitchcock scored again, getting his fifth of the night and extending his team's lead to 11.
- Ting would add on two, and Prokhin would mark off another, but the Titans would strike back with two of their own, entering the fourth down 5-17.
- Fullerton would turn on the offense in the fourth quarter, outscoring the home team 6-5.
- JT Doughty opened the period with a pair of goals for the first of his Aggie career, with Prokhin securing his first hat trick just three minutes in.
- Colton Fine and Mateo Ruano would also get their first in the blue and gold, helping their team cruise to a 22-11 home win over Fullerton.
