The short story: No. 8 UC Davis men's water polo finished off its opening weekend at the Triton invitational with another win, taking down Westcliff before falling to No. 4 USC to wrap up its time in La Jolla, Calif.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Westcliff)

• Senior Aleix Aznar Beltran scored three goals on four shots to lead the Aggies
• Junior Frank Laptin made seven stops and had a pair of assists
• Seven goals in the second quarter from the Aggies padded their lead giving them an 11-2 advantage
• Redshirt freshman Thomas Kiesling and freshman Gabe Bensen each had three goals in the game

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. USC)

• Kiesling led the Aggies with five goals in the battle of top 10 programs
• UC Davis kept it close over the first two periods, keeping it at 3-4 then 6-12 heading into the break
• Laptin made four saves while redshirt freshman Baxter Chelsom finished with six saves in the game

UP NEXT FOR THE AGGIES: UC Davis opens home on Fri., Sept. 13 when they host American River College. The Aggie Roundup gets going at Schaal Aquatics Center over the weekend of Sept. 14-15.
