DAVIS, Calif. – Once again UC Davis football has registered on the national radar, this time coming in ranked No. 17 as part of the American Football Coaches Association Football Championship Series Preseason Coaches Poll, putting the Aggies on three preseason polls entering the 2024 season.
Â
UC Davis recently earned a No. 18 ranking on the Stats Preform FCS Preseason Top 25 and earlier in the preseason the Aggies earned a No. 21 ranking on the HERO Sports FCS Preseason Top 25.
Â
The Aggies are one of five Big Sky programs to be named to the list, with two more sitting just on the outside having received votes. Montana and Montana State come in at No. 3 and No. 4 respectively, while Idaho holds a No. 7 ranking and Sacramento State comes in at No. 10.
Â
Last season, despite knocking off Sacramento State in the season finale, the Aggies were the last team left out of the national playoffs, with that being used as logs thrown onto the fire to enter 2024.
Â
First year head coach and former Aggie quarterback
Tim Plough takes the reigns for the first time as a head coach, becoming one of 13 coaches across the FCS in their first year at the helm. Plough returns to Davis, where he coached under another former Aggie then-head coach Dan Hawkins, from 2017-20.
Â
UC Davis boasts preseason All-Americans senior running back
Lan Larison, who has been named to the Walter Payton Preseason Watch List, junior defensive back
Rex Connors (Buck Buchanan Preseason Watch List) and senior defensive lineman
Zach Kennedy. They also can claim Big Sky Preseason All-Conference honoree junior kicker
Hunter Ridley and the Big Sky Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in Larison.
Â
