The short story: UC Davis baseball took a 3-2 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 7-4 win against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Monday, powered behind a 3-for-3 day from Ryan Lee.

LEADING OFF
  • Rowen Barnes picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis, tossing a shutout inning without giving up a hit
  • Max Hippensteel also made an impact on the mound for the Aggies, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout
  • Lee fueled the hit department for UC Davis, going 3-for-3, scoring two runs as well
  • Tyler Howard, Alex Gouveia, and Damian Stone provided UC Davis' three RBIs on the day
  • Making the most of their plate discipline and miscues from Nevada's battery, the Aggies scored five of their seven runs on either passed balls, wild pitches, and walks
  • Nevada's Nolan Wilson was a standout for the Wolf Pack, finishing the day 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nevada started the scoring early, plating two runs in the second with a homer to left field
  • The Aggies responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on back-to-back pitches with a wild pitch and passed ball being responsible for UC Davis' first two runs
  • Gouveia cashed in the third run of the game, singling home Wolbert from third bring UC Davis ahead 3-2
  • UC Davis would continue to hold down Nevada for a pair of innings while Aggies would again explode for three runs, this time in the fourth
  • The free 90's continued to plague the Wolf Pack, with UC Davis scoring all runs in the half via walks or wild pitch
  • Nevada would go six innings without scoring and while the Aggies tacked on one more in the eighth to make it 7-2
  • Nevada would make things interesting scoring two runs in the top half of the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but their rally was cut short with a game-ending double play securing the Aggies a 7-4 win
NEXT UP
UC Davis will look to secure their second straight Big West series win when they travel to take on the Cal State Fullerton Titans. That series begins Friday, May 10 and concludes Sunday, May 12.
