The short story: UC Davis baseball took a 3-2 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 7-4 win against the Nevada Wolf Pack on Monday, powered behind a 3-for-3 day from
Ryan Lee.
LEADING OFF
- Rowen Barnes picked up the victory out of the bullpen for UC Davis, tossing a shutout inning without giving up a hit
- Max Hippensteel also made an impact on the mound for the Aggies, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout
- Lee fueled the hit department for UC Davis, going 3-for-3, scoring two runs as well
- Tyler Howard, Alex Gouveia, and Damian Stone provided UC Davis' three RBIs on the day
- Making the most of their plate discipline and miscues from Nevada's battery, the Aggies scored five of their seven runs on either passed balls, wild pitches, and walks
- Nevada's Nolan Wilson was a standout for the Wolf Pack, finishing the day 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nevada started the scoring early, plating two runs in the second with a homer to left field
- The Aggies responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on back-to-back pitches with a wild pitch and passed ball being responsible for UC Davis' first two runs
- Gouveia cashed in the third run of the game, singling home Wolbert from third bring UC Davis ahead 3-2
- UC Davis would continue to hold down Nevada for a pair of innings while Aggies would again explode for three runs, this time in the fourth
- The free 90's continued to plague the Wolf Pack, with UC Davis scoring all runs in the half via walks or wild pitch
- Nevada would go six innings without scoring and while the Aggies tacked on one more in the eighth to make it 7-2
- Nevada would make things interesting scoring two runs in the top half of the ninth, bringing the tying run to the plate, but their rally was cut short with a game-ending double play securing the Aggies a 7-4 win
