The short story: Damian Stone continued to be the most potent Aggie hitter, as he delivered a game-tying home run in the eighth, but UC Davis ultimately fell in the 11
th inning to Cal Poly in an extra-inning thriller.
LEADING OFF
- Stone finished the day going 1-for-5 with the aforementioned home run in the eighth providing one of the Aggies' two RBIs on the day
- Nick Leehey had the other Aggie RBI, as he also was 1-for-5 with a single
- Riley Acosta accounted for the other Aggie hit on the day, going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk
- Bryan Green continued his upward trend of the season, delivering another quality start, tossing 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs while striking out seven Mustangs
- Cal Poly was led offensively by senior Jake Steels, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Tanner Sagouspe led the Mustangs pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings while also earning the win in the process
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UC Davis started the scoring in the first, as Leehey got the benefit of a wind-aided popup that dropped in-between three different Mustang defenders near right field to score Tyler Howard from second base
- It wouldn't take long for the Cal Poly to respond as the Mustangs would draw it even in the bottom half of the second with a double down the left field line to make it 1-1
- The Mustangs would take the lead in the seventh on a single to center field and take a late 2-1 lead into the later innings
- The lead for Cal Poly didn't even last a pitch, as Stone blasted his team-leading sixth homer over the right field wall to tie the game up at two a piece
- The stalemate would continue till the 11th, which saw Cal Poly capitalize on a wild pitch to bring runners to second and third
- This would eventually allow for the Mustangs to score on a fielder's choice back to the pitcher, with the runner making it just in time before a tag could be made at the plate
NOTABLE
- UC Davis hitters drew three hit by pitches tonight
- Stone extended his reached base streak to 15 games
