The short story:  UC Davis extends its Big West Conference winning streak to five games after earning a pair of victories over UC San Diego to clinch its second straight series win. The Aggies exploded for a season-high 14 runs in the game one win before prevailing in a back-and-forth battle in the second game of the day.

LEADING OFF

  • The Aggies rolled for a season-high 14 runs on 13 hits in the series opener.
  • UC Davis posted its highest-scoring inning of the season in game one, posting nine runs in the fifth.
  • Eight of the nine Aggie starters recorded a base and every UC Davis starter reached base safely in the first game.
  • With the 14-0 victory in the first game, UC Davis registers its second run-rule win of the season. The first came on Mar. 4 against Wagner (W, 9-0).
  • Marley Panziera enjoyed an incredible day at the plate, hitting two home runs in her 3-for-7 day with four RBI. The freshman has now ascended into the team lead for homers with four big flies on the year.
  • Sarah Starks swung a hot bat, going 5-for-7 while driving in five runs.
  • Anna Dethlefson collected four hits on the day, including a 3-for-3 performance in game one.
  • Ashley Sawai and Sarah Reineman combined to throw a two-hit shutout in the first game.
  • In game two, Kenedi Brown went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out four to earn the win.

THE RUNDOWN (GAME ONE)
  • The Aggies took an early lead when Dethlefson led off the ballgame with a walk before Pahulu continued her hot streak at the plate with an RBI double in the gap.
  • UC Davis broke the game open with a big third inning, using RBI base hits from Leah Polson, Maddie Grissom, and Starks to fuel the four-run rally.
  • Ashley Sawai delivered a fantastic start in the circle, pitching two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.
  • Sarah Reineman came on to start the third and was equally as impressive, tossing a scoreless three frames while surrendering just one hit to earn the win.
  • The offensive explosion continued when McMahan launched a three-run homer – her first of the season – to extend the lead to 8-0.
  • Sarah Nakahara made it a double-digit lead for the Aggies when she grounded a two-RBI base hit through the right side.
  • It became a 12-0 ballgame when Starks did even more damage lining a two-out, two-strike base hit to right field to drive home two more runs for Davis' team.
  • UC Davis was none done, however, when Panziera blasted her third home run of the year. The freshman's two-run shot pushed the lead to 14-0, capping off a nine-run fifth inning.

THE RUNDOWN (GAME TWO)
  • After two scoreless frames to start the contest, the Aggies got the offense going yet again when hits from Polson and Pahulu sparked a two-run third to power UC Davis into the lead.
  • Panziera doubled the lead when she lifted a deep fly ball over the centerfield wall, her second two-run blast of the day.
  • Sawai got the nod again in game two and took a perfect game into the fourth inning.
  • The freshman retired nine straight batters before surrendering a hit to the leadoff batter in the home half of the fourth, and was later relieved by Brown after the Tritons scored twice in the inning.
  • Starks led off the fifth inning with a single and later scored on a UC San Diego error to extend the advantage to 5-2.
  • The hosts whittled the lead to one when Hailey Mulligan hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Using base hits from Dethlefson, Polson, and Starks, the Aggies scored three insurance runs in the seventh.
  • Brown shut the door in the last half inning, clinching the 8-4 win.

  • UC Davis has won consecutive series for the first time this season.
