The short story:  UC Davis nearly battled back from a four-run deficit against one of the nation's top teams - No. 5 Stanford – in the first game of the twin bill. The Cardinal posted 12 runs in the second half of doubleheader to make it a pair of wins over the Aggies on Wednesday afternoon at La Rue Field.

LEADING OFF

• Sarah Reineman was solid out of the bullpen in the first game of the day, holding one of the nation's best offenses to just two earned runs over her 6.1 innings of work.
• In game one, Stanford was led offensively by freshman Ava Gall, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• Regan Krause was solid in the circle, throwing seven innings of two-run ball to earn her 16^th win of the year.
• Libbie McMahan went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the first game.
• Anna Dethlefson smacked her second home run of the season in the second game of the day.
• Stanford got an incredible performance from Aly Kaneshiro in game two, going 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs, and eight RBI.

• Brown struggled with her command in the top of the first, walking the bases loaded. The Aggies nearly worked their way out of the jam, but an error with two outs prolonged the inning, allowing the visitors to score twice.
• Reineman relieved Brown after the Cardinal rallied for a couple runs in the first.
• In the second frame, Stanford extended its lead to three after using two hits to tack on another run.
• The Cardinal added one more run in the fifth.
• UC Davis made its best effort at a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring twice before placing the tying run on base, but couldn't come up with the clutch hit with two-outs, falling to Stanford 4-2.

• Jade Berry gave the Cardinal an early lead with her solo shot in the top of the second.
• The visitors doubled their lead in the third when Kaneshiro delivered a two-out RBI double.
• The Aggies answered in the next frame when Dethlefson launched her second home run of the year, a solo homer to cut the lead in half.
• Stanford flexed its muscles in top of the fourth, rallying for six runs on five hits. Kaneshiro broke the game open with her three-run bomb in the inning.
• UC Davis continued to fight, scoring once in the home half of the fourth when Mickey Buscemi and Kayla Macias drew a pair of walks before Olivia McFarland's infield single brought a run home.
• Kaneshiro did some more damage in the sixth, mashing a grand slam for her second round-tripper of the day to make it a 12-3 ballgame.
• The 12-3 score line would hold after Chung closed out the run-rule victory.
