DAVIS, Calif. — The UC Davis women's water polo team was defeated, 7-6, by the CSUN Matadors on Saturday afternoon at Schaal Aquatics Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A close contested throughout, Grace Pelkey opened the scoring to give the Aggies an early lead. Liberty Massman put in a score following a Matador goal, but CSUN responded again to finish the first quarter tied at two goals apiece.
Bridget Miller, Sam Yoo and Alison Guisti all contributed second quarter scores to give UC Davis a 5-4 lead at the half.
The second half was defined by stellar goalie play, as neither offense got much going in the third period. CSUN managed to tie the game at five with a late period score.
The Matadors rattled off two more goals in the fourth quarter, taking a 7-5 lead with just over two minutes to play.
Grace Pelkey drew a five-meter penalty foul and converted the free shot, bringing the Aggies within one with 51 seconds remaining.
Following a defensive stand, the Aggies were unable to get off a final shot, with the game finalizing, 7-6.
NOTABLE
Nellie McAdams was outstanding in the goal in her final home game, finishing with 14 saves and a steal. Following the conclusion of the game, the Aggies recognized McAdams, Ryan Sund, Ashley Salem, Tess Fundter and Pelkey for their contributions to the program in a Senior Day Ceremony.

The Aggies will conclude their season on the road with two more Big West matchups next weekend. UC Davis plays UC San Diego at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 19, then Cal State Fullerton at noon on Saturday, Apr. 20.
