SANTA CLARA, Calif. —  Riley Acosta continued to swing a hot bat, delivering a decisive two-run blast in extra-innings to lift UC Davis over Santa Clara 8-6 Saturday after 14 innings of baseball.

Freshman
Sal Batres (1-1) got the win out of the bullpen for UC Davis (8-6). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up two hits, no walks and striking out three. Freshman
Tyler Wood also pitched lights-out, going 3.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one. The pair of freshmen arms combined to shutout the Broncos during the final 5.1 innings of play. Their performances out of the bullpen were instrumental in UC Davis' winning efforts, limiting the damage at every turn despite the Broncos out-hitting the Aggies at a 15-11 clip.
In the batter's box, the Aggies were led by the aforementioned
Riley Acosta, who went 2-for-7 on the day with his home run in the 14th inning and three RBI. Sophomore
Ryan Lee put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Making his first career start at first base, Lee made the most of his appearance in the lineup, providing one of the three Aggie hits on the day that came with runners in scoring positions.
Junior
Alex Gouveia also chipped in for UC Davis, putting together a game-high three hits in five trips to the plate while adding two RBI. Gouveia's single in the top of the 14th was maybe the second most important at-bat of the game for the Aggies as he gave way to Acosta's go-ahead home run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies scored in six different innings on the way to victory. After holding the lead two different times earlier in the ballgame, UC Davis broke a 6-6 tie and took the lead for good at 8-6 in the fourteenth inning on Acosta's two-out two-run home run off of junior Brayden Dotoli.
