Aggies Win Thriller to Open Double-Header but Split the Day with CSUN

The short story: UC Davis baseball rallied from behind during game one of the double-header, scoring two runs in the ninth to win the first one against the Matadors in exciting fashion, 5-4. Timely hitting lifted the Aggies in game one, while it was a different story during the second game, as CSUN hitters combined for five extra-base hits to power their 11-2 victory over UC Davis to secure the series.

LEADING OFF
  • UC Davis used a strong ninth inning to secure their lone win of the series
  • In game one, UC Davis went 5-for-10 (.500) with runners in scoring position, proving to be a pivotal difference maker in the first game of the day
  • In game two, CSUN was the aggressor, collecting six hits with runners on base compared to the Aggies who only got two
  • Stone led the Aggies at the plate, going 4-for-7 on the day with an RBI

  • The Matadors responded with a strong rally, scoring four runs to take a 4-2 lead
  • In the eighth inning, UC Davis narrowed the gap to 4-3 with an RBI single from Lee
  • A ninth-inning comeback saw UC Davis grab a 5-4 lead
  • The Aggies scored initially from a sacrifice fly from Alex Gouveia
  • Sophomore Braydon Wooldridge's single later in the ninth contributed to the eventual game-winning run
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO)
  • UC Davis opened the second half of the double-header trailing 2-0, but quickly responded by putting runs on the board in the third inning
  • Leehey's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for UC Davis
  • The offense for UC Davis was outshined by CSUN the rest of the way, with the Matadors scoring nine unanswered runs, charged by a pair of home runs from Kevin Fitzer
  • CSUN would eventually go on and secure the series with an 11-2 win

  • Damian Stone was the lone Aggie to record multi-hit games in both of the games today
  • Mark Wolbert now has the longest reached base streak for UC Davis with 11
