The short story: Seven different UC Davis pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts while Ryan Lee paced the offense with a team-high two hits to defeat the Sacramento State Hornets 3-2 and secure the season series over their Causeway rivals.
LEADING OFF
- Jack Gallagher and Ryan Lee ignited the Aggie offense, providing UC Davis with an early two runs
- The Aggies had control of the rest of the game after moving ahead of the Hornets 2-0 in the bottom of the second and never surrendered their lead
- UC Davis pitchers limited Sacramento State to just 2-for-12 (.167) with runners in scoring position, collecting three key outs in the bottom of the ninth with the Hornets threatening at the lead
- Gallagher led the Aggies at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI
- Sacramento State was led offensively by junior Matt Masciangelo, who went 2-for-2 with two doubles
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Aggies seized an early lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second
- The highlight was a run-scoring double from Gallagher's bat, that scored Theo Forshey
- Lee promptly followed up with a run scoring single to left field to bring home Gallagher
- The Hornets responded by narrowing the gap to 2-1 in the top of the fourth
- UC Davis was able to reassert their authority in the seventh inning with Jack Castagnola dashing home to score the decisive run of the inning, giving the Aggies a much needed insurance run to take the 3-1 lead
- Sacramento State, resilient to the end, managed to claw back a run and bring the score to 3-2 with the heart of the Hornet lineup up
- Despite the efforts, Kaden Hogan closed the door for UC Davis and earned the save and season series win over the Hornets
