Brown's Complete Game Leads UC Davis to 3-2 Win over California Baptist

DAVIS, Calif. - Kenedi Brown had everything working on Friday, punching out nine Lancers over seven innings of work to help lead the Aggies over California Baptist.

In addition to her nine strikeouts, Brown (2-1) went the distance to pick up her second win of the year. The Elk Grove native surrendered two runs, both unearned, on four hits and walking none for UC Davis (4-4).

Home runs from Grace Kilday and Sarah Starks provided the offense for UC Davis. Starks blasted a solo shot to start the rally before Kilday gave her team the lead for good with her two-run homer to cap off the three-run fourth inning. Anna Dethlefson recorded a base hit and a stolen base while Tatum Wentworth collected a knock in her 1-for-2 day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first inning, California Baptist used two hits to scratch a run in the top of the second. In their next turn at the plate, the Lancers capitalized on an error and a passed ball to double their advantage.

The Aggies broke up the no-hitter in the third inning with Dethlefson's infield hit, but UC Davis was unable to bring her around to score. Brown settled down in the fourth, retiring CBU in order to keep things close. UC Davis finally got the bats going when Starks launched her first home run of the season in the bottom half of the inning, a no-doubter over the left field wall. The rally continued when Wentworth roped a single up the middle, setting the stage for Kilday. The catcher worked a 2-1 count before smacking an opposite-field homer to put the Aggies out in front.

Brown brought UC Davis to the finish line with a masterful three innings to end the ballgame. The right hander faced just one batter over the minimum, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters to grab the complete game victory.
