MARTIN, Tenn. — The UC Davis equestrian team went 1-1 on their weekend trip to Tennessee, defeating No. 8 Delaware State 11-5 on Saturday morning, and dropping their competition with No. 10 UT Martin 10-8 in the afternoon.

The Aggies (3-4, 3-1) earned three MOPs in each meet, with a final tally of two MOPs in Fences and Reining and one in each of the Flat and Horsemanship disciplines.

Behind a strong showing in Reining, UC Davis jumped out to an early 5-3 lead against Delaware State. Macey Newkirk collected the Reining MOP with a score of 69.5. 

The meet, which began on Friday afternoon, resumed on Saturday morning with Fences and Horsemanship. The Aggies won both disciplines with a 3-1 advantage. Carly Sweeney earned the Fences MOP with a score of 88, while Maddie Gregory picked up the Horsemanship MOP with a 75.

Lauren Kolbe led the way for the Aggies in Flat to begin the competition with UT Martin, riding for an 87 and MOP. The Aggies took the discipline 3-2.

The Skyhawks took a 6-4 advantage in the contest after a 4-1 Reining performance. Lauren Langbaum picked up the point and MOP for UC Davis. 

The Aggies earned a point back in Fences, winning the discipline 3-2. Carly Sweeney won her second MOP of the weekend, scoring a 90.

UT Martin sealed the meet in Horsemanship, taking two points to the Aggies one to finish with a 10-8 victory.

The Aggies are back in action next weekend when they host Baylor on Feb. 17 at 9:00 a.m.
