WHAT HEAD COACH TIM PLOUGH HAD TO SAY
"We've talked about how if we want to win the Big Sky we have to win our games at home and find a way to win on the road. It's become almost a weekly thing for our team, to find ways to win games, which is great. At the same time, you want the team to play to its best potential and today we didn't do that. But we as a team and a staff are committed to getting better each week and for us to be ready to play a complete football game. But today I'm ecstatic about the team's fight and their will to find ways to win games."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Portland State opened the scoring with a touchdown in the first quarter, following a nine-play 80-yard drive to go up 7-0
  • In the second quarter, the Vikings again capped off a scoring drive, scoring after three plays and 78 yards to go up 14-0 midway through the second quarter
  • But UC Davis, much like they have all season, had an answer and on the first play of the Aggies' drive following the Portland State touchdown, Larison scampered up the middle for 50 yards, injecting adrenaline into the Davis sideline
  •  Two plays later Hastings found Hutton from 17 yards out to get the Aggies on the board with a touchdown pass that made it 14-7 with seven minutes to go in the second quarter
  • A three-and-out by Portland State gave the Aggies the ball back with five minutes to go in the half
  • A pair of 20-plus yard passes from Hastings to Tompkins and senior wide receiver Chaz Davis, got the Aggies down the field and on a third and six play, Hastings lobbed one out to Larison in the left flat and the Aggie back stumbled into the endzone to tie things up at 14-14
  • Unfortunately for the Ags, Portland State had one more drive in them to end the half, going 75 yards in four plays to take a 20-14 lead into the break
  • A Portland State touchdown early in the third quarter gave the Vikings a 23-14 lead and meant the Aggies had work to do to mount a comeback
  • Turnovers and drives that struggled to get going described the Aggie third quarter as Portland State took its 23-14 lead into the final 15 minutes
  • On a drive that started with 1:10 left in the third quarter, UC Davis cut the deficit, eventually getting a rushing touchdown from Hastings, the first of his career, from three yards out
  • The Hastings touchdown got the Ags within one score at 23-21 with 12:43 left in the game
  • Portland State responded with a drive of their own, getting down to the one-yard line with a chance to put six more on the board
  • But the Aggie defense stood tall and forced the Vikings to settle for a 23-yard field goal to go up 26-21
  • The defensive stand kept the score within a touchdown and with six minutes left the final stage was set for quite the finish
  • Both sides traded drives, and on the final offensive possession for Portland State the Aggies forced a three-and-out to get the UC Davis offense the ball back
  • With 1:50 on the clock and the ball sitting on the six-yard line, UC Davis and Hastings begun to march down the field in search of a winning score
  • Several plays later and the Aggies were looking at fourth and seven with 53 seconds left
  • Hastings dropped back, and while facing pressure stepped up in the pocket to find Larison 10 yards down the middle of the field to secure an Aggie first down and keep the drive alive
  • The Ags got down to the 11-yard line and had enough time to run three plays, the first two were not successful, but with one second left UC Davis had one final crack
  • Out of the shotgun Hastings sat in the pocket but found no one open at first, he then opened a scramble drill as he rolled out to his right
  • Knowing the situation, Tompkins made himself available and without hesitation and no time on the clock Hastings delivered a confident ball to Tompkins right at the pylon
  • Following a quick pause, the official on the goal line signaled touchdown and the celebration was on
  • Although the play was reviewed, the officials determined that the play would stand and after Hastings kneeled on the extra point play UC Davis had secured its 27-26 last-second comeback victory

GAME NOTES
  • The last-minute score was the first time since 2021 that the Aggies have won a game on a last-minute touchdown … The last time was a Tompkins one-yard rush with 27 seconds left against Weber State

  • Hastings' touchdown rush was the first of his career
  • Larison becomes the first Aggie to rush for 100 yards and receive 100 yards in the same game in at least five seasons
