Aggies Knocked Off by Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho – UC Davis was handed its second consecutive defeat when Idaho State earned a four-set victory for their first win of the season.
 
The Aggies hit just .140 as a team in another tough day offensively, but freshman Reese Diersbock shined with a season-high 15 kills, doing it at an efficient .286 clip.
 
Idaho State enjoyed a solid day, hitting .261 with 54 total kills en route to the 3-1 win in Pocatello.
 
Megan Lenn reached double-digits, notching 12 kills on the day while coming up with eight digs on the defensive end.
 
Casi Newman posted a team-high 18 assists while adding five digs.
 
 
Set 1
UC Davis held a 14-13 advantage after a back-and-forth battle in the first set before Idaho State put together a 4-0 run to grab a lead they would not surrender. The Bengals eventually rolled to the 25-18 win to take the first set.

 
Set 2

The Aggies replied by edging out Idaho State 25-22 in set two, evening things up at 1-1 in the match. Lenn started to catch fire with three consecutive kills down the stretch before Jade Light punctuated the set victory with a pair of kills.

 
Set 3
Idaho State dominated the third set, cruising to the 25-11 win to put the pressure back on UC Davis. It was a struggle in set three for the Aggies, hitting -.054 and mustering just five kills.
 
Set 4
The hosts to an early 4-2 lead in the fourth set but the Aggies would quickly rally from behind to gain a 10-7 advantage in the attempt to force a decisive fifth set. However, Idaho State continued to use its home gym to its advantage, stringing a 4-0 scoring run to restore its lead. UC Davis would claw within one point, making the score 24-23, but the Bengals would apply the finishing blow to earn its first win of the year.

The Ags travel to Los Angeles, Calif. for the Trojan Invitational hosted by USC. UC Davis will take on the Trojans on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. to open the tournament.
