Davis, Calif. — The UC Davis women's soccer team lost in a tightly contested battle against LMU, 1-0.
The loss drops UC Davis to 3-3 in their non-conference slate as the Aggies continue to prepare for their journey towards the Big West portion of their season.
In what was the first of two games taking place at Aggie Soccer Field, UC Davis manufactured four shots, with their best opportunity coming from a
Leslie Fregoso shot in the 71st minute. Fregoso's shot was the lone Aggie attempt to be on target.
The game was chippy from the opening kickoff with a total of 27 fouls being called throughout the contest.
With this style of play taking over the officiating and pace of play, the first half saw neither side get into any sort of rhythm offensively. LMU only had three shots in the first while UC Davis had one which came from
Risa Yamada in the opening minutes of play.
In the second half, much of this physicality would continue.
With scoring hard to come by,
Caeley Goldstein in goal for UC Davis had a pair of saves in the 52nd minute that kept the game knotted at 0-0.
It wasn't until the 78th minute where the Lions were able to secure the game-winning goal with LMU's Amber McCorkle lofting one into the top right corner with a left-footed finish.
